RGB & RGBW – What’s the difference?

All good lighting specialists and sign-makers need to know the difference when it comes to RGB lighting ⚡️

So what exactly is the difference?

RGB LEDs allow you to create almost any colour you desire for your illuminated signage project, using just 3 primary colours. Often referred to as 3 channel, it has Red, Green and Blue chips on the printed circuit board. Paired with an RGB Control Kit, the colour and brightness can be controlled. By adjusting the brightness of each diode, RGB modules and strips can produce a spectrum of colours and visual effects.

RGBW offers all the same benefits of an RGB LED, with an added 4th channel. The colour of that channel? You guessed it – white! This allows you to have a cool white or warm white output, along with an amazing hue of colours. Be sure to reference your RGBW product specification sheet to ensure you know the kelvin of the white channel. And don’t forget to use a specific RGBW Control Kit for full brightness and colour control.

Both lighting options are fantastic for residential and commercial lighting, as well as signage fit outs.

At Bounce we carry a wide range of RGB and RGBW modules.
